Back In the Swing of Things!

Today, it was time to get back to class :( Having the three day weekend made me really look forward to Thanksgiving break..being with family, eating good food, and BLACK FRIDAY!! Just two more weeks!

After my first class, I headed to the gym to get my Back and Bi's workout done. I did three different types of supersets to keep my heart rate up and get out of the gym as fast as possible. For a thirty minute lift session, I burned about 170 calories, which is a little less than what I would burn if I did thirty minutes of cardio, but because I was lifting heavy weight, my metabolism was raised for the entire day! That is why weights > cardio .

It's usually around lunchtime when my workouts end, so today for my post workout meal, I had a kale, strawberry, and chicken salad! Now, this wasn't one of the pre made meals that my school's cafeteria was serving. They did have a kale salad out, but it was mixed with parmesan cheese, croutons, bacon, and ranch.

-_-

Luckily, the main chef, Ruth, will toss a salad for me if there's something on the salad I don't want or lighter dressing. Since there was nothing on that salad that I wanted (besides the kale) I went to the grill and got a chicken breast, cut it up, then cut up some strawberries, and asked her to toss that instead. And to top it off, she brought out a blackberry vinaigrette she had made and dashed some of that in there!

It was a really good salad.

My health tip is that don't be afraid to make requests or do special things for your food! It would have been really easy to have eaten the original salad as is, or just eat kale and chicken (which isn't fun) But, get creative, be friendly, and you'll have yourself a great, healthy, and delicious meal!

Today's protein shake comes from Dashing Dish once again! This one is another favorite of mine...

French Toast Protein Shake

French Toast Protein Shake!!

- 1/2 c unsweetned vanilla almond milk
- 1/2 c cottage cheese
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 2 tbsp sugar free maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- dash of pumpkin pie spice
- desired amount of stevia
- 3-4 ice cubes

Blend and enjoy this sweet, delicious, protein packed shake that tastes exactly like french toast!
It's even...dare I say it....better than the real thing!

Hope you had a great day!

P.S. Here's a great article about the wonderful things that happen to you and your body when you start living a healthier lifestyle!
